This Week at Skyway
It’s an exciting time in the life of our renovation project! As new walls and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are being installed, arguably the most exciting announcement is the progression of our 2-story sanctuary structural modifications.
Our last update showed a glimpse into the scale of the new sanctuary with the concrete slab and decking removed, along with some pretty cool images of the floor joists being demoed. This month, we get to report that the new steel trusses have been completed. This allows for the roof structure to be supported to allow the removal of the supporting beams and columns (this will open up the space and allow for better sight lines from the balcony).

Here's the last beam coming out!
What an amazing transformation!
A couple of weeks ago, we showed the plumbing trenches for the women's bathroom; we're excited to share the concrete has been poured back and framing has been installed! Due to generous donations by a friend of Grace, the concrete scope for this entire project has been donated. The joyful generosity of our members and friends is both humbling and astonishing!

Next up: now that the beams have been removed from the sanctuary, it's time for the columns to come out! Our structural steel inspector (pictured below) has reviewed the welds to make sure we can proceed with removing the columns this coming week.

An integral part of this building's design (remember those aforementioned steel trusses?), is our very own member, Drew Eiland with Harvest Engineering. Stay tuned for our next update and questions answered from Drew!
